Where do Houston guests go for balayage, highlights and gray blending?
Houston guests book their color at Hello Beautiful Salon in Missouri City, a short drive southwest of the city. Our colorists do balayage, babylights, highlights, blonde work, gray blending, full color and color correction. Every appointment opens with your hair history and the photo on your phone. From there we pick the technique that gets you where you want to go, and we tell you how many visits it takes.
Most guests want one of two things: soft dimension that grows out gracefully, or a fuller shade that blends gray. Here's what gets asked for most.
- Balayage. Hand-painted, free-hand color with a soft grow-out. See our page on lived-in balayage.
- Highlights and babylights. Foils or a fine weave for brighter dimension. Babylights mimic the blonde your hair picks up in the sun. Here is how we approach highlights.
- Full color. One shade, root to end. Our hair color page covers the details.
- Root touch up. Refreshes only the regrowth.
- Gray blending. Lowlights and gloss so gray reads as dimension, not a stripe.
- Color correction. For box dye or color that went sideways.
What if you're starting from dark or black hair?
You can go lighter, but it usually happens over more than one visit. Dark hair is packed with pigment. Lightener has to pull it through red, then orange, then yellow before it gets anywhere near blonde. Rush all of that into one afternoon and your hair pays for it.
Box dye makes it trickier. It sits in layers, so it lifts unevenly and can come out patchy. How many visits you need comes down to how dark you're starting, what's already on your hair, and how much lift your hair can take while keeping its integrity. A toner at the end cancels the warmth that shows up along the way. We tone with professional color lines, including Keune.
Staying dark? A full color or gloss is a simpler plan. Either way, we'll tell you straight whether your goal takes one visit or several.
Our hair color process
A color appointment here starts with a conversation, not a brush. On a first visit, that conversation covers what has been on your hair, how much grow-out you're happy to live with, and whether you want the exact shade in your photo or a softer version of it. Here is how it goes.
- Bring a photo, or several. Pictures say what color names can't.
- Tell us your hair history, including box dye, past lightening and anything done at home.
- Talk through the plan: the technique, the number of visits, and what's included, like toner and a blowout.
- Sit back while we section and apply. Balayage is hand-painted. Highlights use foils.
- Rinse and tone or gloss, which is the step that finishes your color.
- Leave with home care: how to wash, what to use and when to come back.
We say what's included up front. Toner, blowout, estimated time and what costs extra are spelled out before we start, so you're not guessing. When you want to lock it in, reserve your color appointment and tell us your goal.
What guests say about our color work
The thing guests mention most is being listened to. One of our guests wrote in a Google review: "You're my hair genie!!! I love the color you do on my hair, I get compliments daily (literally) !!!! My ombre looks so natural and I love the dimensions. You'll be my hair savior forever!!!"
That is what the consultation is for. You can see how our color grows out on our Instagram. Not sure what to ask for? Here is a closer look at getting color done right before you book.
Guests also leave knowing how to keep it: how to wash it, what to use, and when to come back. That matters as much as the formula.
What hair color costs
Color is priced by what the work takes, not by one flat number. Your starting point drives it: length, thickness, how much lightening or correction is involved, and whether you add a gloss or blowout. Two guests can book the same service and need different amounts of product and time. Our service menu lists current pricing and what each service includes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I get balayage or highlights?
Choose balayage for a soft, lived-in grow-out with no hard line at the root. Choose highlights for brighter, more defined lightness. Bring a photo and we'll tell you which one fits your hair.
Can you fix box dye?
Yes, in most cases, though the plan depends on what's in your hair. Box dye often leaves uneven tone, and lightening over it can turn patchy. Read our guide on fixing box dye before a correction to see what to do and what to leave alone.
Can you take black hair to blonde in one visit?
Usually not. Dark pigment has to come out in stages, and forcing it in one sitting risks breakage. We map the stages at your consultation so you know how many visits to expect.
Do I need a toner?
If you're going lighter or blonde, usually yes. Toner sets the final shade and cancels unwanted warmth. In our experience, most blondes want a toner refresh every six to eight weeks.
Can I keep some of my gray?
Yes. Some guests keep their gray on purpose and we blend around it with lowlights and gloss. Here is how to blend gray so it looks natural.
